Bourne Society Talks on Caterham's Ridge Radio - April 2013

Each month Tanya Smith, a member of the Bourne Society Council, produces a short pre-recorded piece to be broadcast on Ridge Radio, Caterham's own internet radio station. This is followed by an interview with Dave Roberts, the presenter of the show. Each talk focuses on a different aspect of local history during the show that lasts from 7.00-9.00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Tanya tends to do her piece between 7.30-8.00 p.m.

Businesses in the Whyteleafe area from Victorian times - February 2013

Peter Skuse, a former Vice-President of the Bourne Society, has collected together and analysed details of the shops and businesses that have operated in the Whyteleafe area from 1842 up until the present day. The material which has been collected from a variety of sources shows details of the business name, the proprietor and the address where known.

New Society Publications - January 2013

The latest in the long line of village histories has just been published. Village Histories 10. Woldingham recounts the story of the village on a volume of c. 200 illustrated pages. This book, edited by Gwyneth Fookes and Roger Packham, is the last in this series and concludes the work of many years by many contributors across the society.

New "What's On" pages - December 2012

A new set of pages have beeen added showing some of the regular events of the society that are open to members. At the moment the monthly "Members Forum" and monthly "Sanderstead Local History Group" meetings are listed.

More events will be added throughout the year in order to keep members abreast of what's coming up in 2013.

New Blue Plaques - September 2012

Two new plaques have been placed by the society; one at the station formerly known as Smitham Station and one at the former Caterham Cottage Hospital site.

New Society Publications - July 2012

A new book entitled History of Warlingham and Chelsham has just been published, based on a series of Parish Notes written for the Warlingham & Chelsham Parish Magazine from 1898 to 1925, and providing a comprehensive history of the two villages and their surroundings throughout this period.

Publications from the Past Available On-line

A number of articles from past issues of the Society's regular journals have now been included on the website so that prospective members can get an idea of the work of the Society. In addition some of the earlier Bourne Society Publications that are now out of print have also been made available to read on the website.

Walks Leaflets now Available On-line

A series of leaflets describing walks in the Bourne Society area have been published over the years and some of these are now available for viewing on this website.

Bourne Society Maps

Many extra maps relating to the Bourne Society Area have been made available on the website. Instead of needing to order these via the post, all maps and related information sheets may now be viewed at a large size on the screen.
